This session, dedicated to the AASL Standards Mobile App, defines some of the most appropriate uses for school library educators. We will clarify and explain the content of the app and its use as a companion tool to the print publication of the National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries. To demonstrate how the app is both distinct from and complements the National School Library Standards text, we will share examples for use in three categories: working with school librarian candidates on lesson planning and reflections; professional development planning; and writing and presenting research as a university faculty member. Our session will conclude with opportunities for participants to engage in discussion about the use of the app as school library educators and possible advocacy connections afforded by the app.
Learning Objectives:
Identify and explain features of the app for use as school library educators
Apply tools in the app across three areas: 1. for educator and pre-service student lesson planning and instructional activities, 2. planning professional development for conferences, workshops, etc., and 3. for writing and research activities
Discuss use of the app to strengthen and simplify the work of school library educators
Share advocacy opportunities pertaining to the app, such as communication with stakeholders
