This program introduces a curriculum for teaching English/Spanish cognates through picture-book read-alouds. English/Spanish cognates are words in English and Spanish that share the same etymology. A cognate vocabulary may enrich the lexicons of ELLs if, in the primary grades, it is taught early and often through picture books. Hands-on activities with award-winning picture books will be included in the program.
