Ditching Dewey is easy. Replacing the DDC with another working system for classifying and organizing a school library is a bit harder. Case studies from elementary and middle school libraries that went beyond Dewey provide two different models to consider. The first replaced the DDC with a different set of subject terms; the other modified the DDC to create more user-friendly terms at the tens level.
