Kristina Holzweiss

School Library Media Specialist, Bay Shore Middle School

Mrs. Holzweiss, who is a Library Media Specialist at Bay Shore Middle School, is known in her district as a pioneer who is proficient with the most current technology. She is always willing to help teachers and even co-teaches as she assists with research and technology skills. After initiating a project-based program called Genius Hour that helps students manipulate, create, design and learn, she also secured funding for the first Students of Long Island Maker Expo.

This year Kristina has been honored to be the recipient of the 2015 NYSCATE Outstanding Teacher of the Year and the Long Island Technology Summit Fred Podolski Leadership Innovation Award. Kristina has also been selected as the 2015 School Librarian of the Year by School Library Journal and Scholastic.

Kristina has created a Genius Hour program in her school library and also organized SLIME - Students of Long Island Maker Expo. Kristina has presented at ISTE and moderates a Voxer group for educators interested in bringing makerspaces and Genius Hour into their libraries and classrooms.
